Arclin has rebranded as a global developer of protective materials able to provide innovative customer solutions. After this year’s acquisitions, including DuPont’s Aramids and the Kevlar® and Nomex® brands, Arclin is combining its legacy in chemical sciences with targeted acquisitions to be the next titan in mission-critical products affecting every sector and everyday life.

What prompted the company’s rebranding as a global protective materials science leader?

Arclin has long been known as a specialty chemical producer, but that label often put us into a box where we are seen as a company that simply supplies base molecules. In reality, we have always aimed to be much more than that.

As a global materials science provider, we tailor molecules, formulations and polymers to address unmet needs and real pain points across our customers’ markets.

Doing that well requires creating targeted solutions for specific applications, and innovation has always been at the heart of Arclin, driven by our exceptional team of scientists, chemists and application experts who push boundaries every day.

Inspired by this out-of-the-box approach to thinking and innovating, Arclin’s brand symbol is a nod to a deconstructed cube. The position of each individual component suggests subtle momentum, signaling forward movement and continuous progress—much like our commitment to ongoing innovation and to bringing life‑changing products to the world.

We wanted our brand to better represent who Arclin is at the core: a vital partner in mission‑critical applications, an essential contributor to downstream products and, in some cases, a company that brings solutions directly to consumers. Our brand represents how we think beyond traditional boundaries, create solutions outside the box and push innovation into the market in meaningful, impactful ways.

What is one of the out-of-the-box solutions developed in Arclin’s new chapter?

Arclin’s legacy is rooted in building, construction and housing‑related products. In fact, we were the original inventors of weather‑protective building solutions—integrated vapor barriers and durable exterior systems. What we saw missing in the marketplace, however, was fire protection, especially as wildfires have become more frequent and severe across the U.S.

About nine years ago, we set out to develop a wood‑based building product in panel form that contractors could easily work with and homeowners could intuitively understand as part of their home’s structure. Creating fire‑retardant or fire‑resistant performance from wood requires highly advanced chemical applications. Our work culminated with Firepoint®, Arclin’s patented exterior wall sheathing designed specifically for fire protection.

Building codes require exterior wall systems to withstand fire exposure for 60 minutes—something no traditional wood‑based panel has ever come close to achieving before. Typical wood panels last about 10 minutes. Firepoint® can resist flames for up to 90 minutes, making it a breakthrough solution and an ideal product for modern homes, especially as builders and homeowners prioritize both resilience and sustainability.

What objectives guide Arclin’s portfolio diversification?

Ten years ago, we were not a highly diverse company, with 75-80% weighted toward building products and housing related markets. Today, our products are going into data centers, electrical infrastructure, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. We have focused on areas that not only had an attractive cycle and outlook but were mission-critical, whether enjoying secular growth or actually being driven by our products. Any of our acquisitions over the last three years have that common DNA of mission-critical applications, self-owned polymers and high-IP technology and high value added for our customer base. Each company brought their own unique chemistries and applications we could take to the next level. We call this diversification with justification–our acquisitions make sense, from our base molecules all the way down to applications.

How about proprietary innovations Arclin is making to buttress AI infrastructure, starting from underlying chemical foundations?

Data centers need massive cooling systems with a cooling media inside of them, which is historically a flammable product. The risk tolerance is very low for data centers–they needed a high-performance cooling media that is 100% fire-resistant or fire retardant. So, Arclin created just that. Our fire-resistant cooling media has quadrupled in volume since we took it to market two years ago, and it is now the predominant product used for data center cooling. AI infrastructure is not just a data center built in the middle of a cornfield, but it is also the electrical infrastructure to support the center. When you think about the Aramids business and the Nomex® and Kevlar® brands we just acquired from DuPont, there is a long history of Nomex® as a thermal insulator and protection product for electrification in EV motors. We plan on growing the material’s use in transformers, switch gears and insulators as well. Everything in new infrastructure built over the next two decades, if not longer, will require Nomex® for thermal protection.

How will you keep innovating in an unpredictable world?

Controlling our chemistry, being a leader in innovation and leveraging our molecules and polymers is what really sets Arclin apart. We still manufacture our molecules–our monomers—to make polymers. Several companies have decided to go further downstream to find more value for their investments. Part of this meant giving up the manufacturing of some of their most important critical inputs. Arclin maintains control of critical inputs, particularly when there is IP attached. As a CEO, I have a chemistry and innovation background that guides me; I understand what it takes to get things from ideation to commercialization. Arclin has the patience, fortitude, and processes to continue innovating products.

Are you integrating AI into any of these processes?

Backed by emerging technologies and innovative processes, Arclin has always been at the forefront with how we build our polymers and our chemistry. Take for instance “Golden Batch”–an AI-enabled, chemical reaction fingerprinting technology that we conceptualized and built in-house. Internally, we continually make upgrades by leveraging AI, machine learning, robotics and automation. When collecting data, you still have to be able to tailor a polymer for your customer and help them apply it. That capability is in their equipment, factories and plants. Often, the equipment has to be custom-manufactured. We have invested over $25 million in technology for the sole purpose of predicting which polymers will be highest in quality and efficiency for our customers. These applications are the next big piece industries will be looking for, and Arclin is going to be one of the few on the street that can truly say that they are the new era of innovation.

In the next three to five years, globally, where do you see hot spots for market growth?

We are already thinking about where Nomex® and Kevlar® can fit into the hardened home concept, as more people are looking to build houses out of materials that will protect their families from environmental disasters. Aerospace is another big one. After COVID, the airline industry kept repairing and upgrading airplanes, but new builds and replacements practically stopped. Now, there is a decade and a half backlog of aerospace catch-up. A significant amount of Nomex® and Kevlar® goes into every single aircraft available today, and we can combine our legacy business with the Aramids piece to create some products that are going to be very interesting.
